Bridie Connell is a Sydney born and based visual artist interested in representations of women and femininity in art and popular culture. Rarely without a camera, her inspiration ranges from fashion photography, Catholic iconography and showgirls to 70s craft journals, dirty realism and dirty rock stars. An Honours graduate from the UNSW College of Fine Arts, she has exhibited in numerous group exhibitions including Southerly Buster and Hands On at Hazelhurst Regional Gallery and Arts Centre and was recently nominated for Best Visual Artist in the 2011 SMAC Awards. A trained go-go dance she is a member of dance troupe The Go-Gettes and performs regularly at local venues including The Vanguard and Gallery Burlesque and her fourth solo exhibition, to be held at Alaska Projects in April 2012, pays homage to the go-go clubs of Sydney’s Kings Cross.
